FIELD USE PROTOCOL:

The flying field is operated and maintained by HRCFC members for the use of all members.  Work and maintenance tasks will be shared by all members, with special work details organized as required.  All flying is performed under the AMA Safety Code, to which each member has agreed when applying for AMA membership.  Additionally, each member must read and understand the following rules:

1).   FLIGHT STATIONS: Flight stations are provided along the runway and are available on  first come, first served basis.  The FLIGHT STATIONS are located near the runway accesses to the runway, in the corners formed by the barrier fence. Therefore, there are 8 FLIGHT STATIONS.  However, it is strongly recommended that only 4 airplanes be in the air at one time.

2).  COMMUNICATIONS: Pilots taxiing from the barrier fence, to the runway are to look for and clear any traffic using the field.  When it’s determined that it is safe to taxi out and use the runway, the pilot is to call out “COMING OUT” to warn of their intentions to use the runway for take-off.  When landing is desired, the pilot shall call out “LANDING” when on the downwind leg of the landing approach.  After landing and when the pilot and his aircraft are clear of the runway, the pilot is to call out “CLEAR” to announce he has gotten off the runway and it is free for others to use.   If a flyer’s engine quits unintentionally, he shall call out “DEAD STICK” as a warning to all in attendance that he requires emergency access to the runway.

3).  FLIGHTLINE ETIQUETTE:
a). When leaving the pits, only taxi FROM the barrier fence.
b). Upon landing, only taxi to the barrier fence.  Do not taxi into or out of the pits!
c). The centerline of the runway is to be considered a barrier and looked upon as extending several hundred feet into the air, thus creating a barrier to flying over the pits and spectator area!

4).  RADIO CONTROL SYSTEMS AND THEIR USE:
a). EQUIPMENT: Only narrow banded and spread spectrum equipment is allowed.  Always check to be certain your transmitter is switched to the “OFF” position previous to leaving home.
b). RADIO FREQUENCY CONTROL: Frequency Control is paramount to safe operations!  It is the duty of every member to understand and use the Frequency Control System in use at the Headwaters R/C Flying Club’s Field. Upon arrival at the club field, place your transmitter in the IMPOUND.  When done flying, make certain your transmitter is switched to the “OFF” position and IMPOUND your transmitter.  HRCFC uses the AMA card type of Frequency Control system.   Re: Frequencies have been assigned channel numbers.  Each channel on the frequency control board is represented by a number starting with Number 11, then 12, 13, so on and so forth on to and including Number 60.  Below each number is a clear plastic pocket.  The channel number of your radio corresponds to the channel number on the frequency control board.  Your AMA membership card (and only your AMA membership card) is to be inserted into this pocket.  If someone else’s AMA membership card is already in the pocket you wish to use, this indicates the channel you wish to use, is in use and you must wait until whom ever is using the channel to be done before you can place your card in the pocket.  Never, never turn on your transmitter, until you have placed your card in the proper UNUSED frequency control board pocket!   It is so important that you understand the above procedure, it is recommend that you explain this system to an experienced Headwaters R/C Flying Club member, to demonstrate your comprehension of the system and its’ use!

5). SPECTATORS, CHILDREN AND PETS:
All spectators must stay behind the first fence AT ALL TIMES!  Children must be controlled by adult supervision and stay behind the first fence AT ALL TIMES!  All pets must leashed and controlled by their owners and stay behind the first fence AT ALL TIMES!
